IN HOSPITAL vs AT THE HOSPITAL

Wrong: My grandfather is at the hospital for treatment.

Correct:

My grandfather is in hospital for treatment.

RULE:

Use "in hospital" to mean admitted as a patient. Use "at the hospital" for being at the hospital location, not necessarily as a patient.

EXAMPLES:

① She has been in hospital for three days.

② He is still in hospital after the accident.

③ I am waiting at the hospital for my uncle.

We met the doctor at the hospital.
